What is Design-Build?
Over the past 15 years, Design-Build practice has greatly accelerated in the United States, making this delivery method one of the most significant trends in design and construction today.
Design-Build is an alternative to the commonly practiced Design-Bid-Build model. Under the latter approach, design and construction are split - separate entities, separate contracts, separate work.
Design-Build, also known as "Design/Construct" and "single-source responsibility", is a method of project delivery in which one entity works under a single contract with the project owner to provide design and construction services. One entity, one contract, one integrated team working from initial concept through completion.
The Design-Build approach streamlines project delivery through a single contract between the owner and the design-build team, transforming the relationship between designers and builders into an alliance which fosters collaboration and teamwork. This simple but fundamental difference saves money and time, which is are the leading causes for closure of projects. United from the outset of every project, an integrated team readily incorporates BIM and LEED certification goals, ensuring efficiency as well as intention in building.
What We Do
Students in DBIA partner with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, participate in hardhat tours of build sites, attend lectures, and so much more!
In the past, DBIA members have discussed organizing construction projects on our own campus!
